Severance in the highest places
that were drilling down to the core,
compacting the softness into packed,
hard stone.
But we broke into the mine
and drugged all the workers,
dragged them away and shut off the drill,
heard it whir to an exhausted stop.
We cheered! for victory!
High-fives all around!
and sat down
bewildered,
